No matter which software you prefer for editing your photos: it definetely has a huge number of functions. The way up-to-date GUIs allow access to these functions is making use of crowded menus, toolboxes and quadrillions of shortcuts.
If you’re using more than one application for photo editing, things may be worse. Especially if you’re not able to (or willing to) memorize long lists of keyboard shortcuts.

Some clever guys from RPGKeys had a quite good idea. How about a special keyboard with the most used functions of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom an. And thats what they offer – for only 590,- USD.

Markus Dollinger from the blog …nachbelichtet wrote on his blog: why not making it a DIY project? If you can live without illuminated keys and a (quite nice looking) aluminium finish of the keyboard – there is a far cheaper way. Why not taking an old keyboard from a cash register?
After reading Markus’ blogpost the plan was clear: get a Preh-keyboard from eBay (in my case a M84WX for 19 Euro), download the software from Preh’s website, make some nice labels for the keys.
Man, this thing is built like a tank, you can program it any way you like and it’s looking good.
I’m using the open source software GIMP and IrfanView for the bulk work, so the keyboard was customized for these applications.

Wer Bilder am PC bearbeitet kennt das: überquellende Menüs, die Maus wird mehrfach neu aufgesetzt um über den gesamten Bildschirm zu hetzen und umfangreiche Shortcutlisten gilt es sich einzuprägen. Wer bei der EBV auf zwei oder mehr Programme nebeneinander nutzt hat mit memorieren der Shortcuts kaum eine Chance.

Das das auch anders geht haben clevere Geschäftsleute herausgearbeitet und bieten mit der RPGKeys eine Spezialtastatur für Adobe Photoshop Lightroom an. Für schlappe 590,- USD.

Markus Dollinger von …nachbelichtet hatte schon darauf hingewiesen: das geht auch billiger. Wer auf die Beleuchtung der Tasten und das gebürstete Metallgehäuse verzichten kann greift einfach zu einer alten Kassentastatur.
So kam es dann, das ich nach dem durchlesen von Markus’ Blogpost bei eBay eine Preh-Kassentastatur M84WX ersteigert habe (EUR 19,- plus Versand), mit Tastenbeschriftungen versehen habe und jetzt an der Programmierung feile. Kompakt, robust und einfach genial.
Versteht sich natürlich selbst das meine Tastatur nicht auf das Adobe Produkt, sondern auf GIMP und IrfanView getrimmt wurde.
